Payment Structure

A $5,000 deposit secures your spot in the Paying It Forward Surrogacy match pool. This allows us to begin finding your best possible match. It covers medical records collection and review, background checks for intended parents and surrogates, and surrogate drug testing. However, if your matched surrogate is not approved by the clinic before the match is finalized, your deposit is fully refunded.

  • Installment 1: $12,000.00 due upon matching
  • Installment 2: $12,000.00 due upon Surrogate passing medical screening
  • Installment 3: $12,000.00 due upon execution of the Gestational Agreement between Surrogate and Intended Parent(s)

Understanding Surrogacy

Gestational surrogacy is a process in which a surrogate carries a baby for another family. The embryo is created through IVF and the surrogate has no biological connection to the child she carries. For intended parents it is often the moment the path to parenthood finally becomes clear. For surrogates it is one of the most meaningful gifts a woman can give to another family.

In gestational surrogacy the surrogate has no biological connection to the baby, which is the standard practice in modern third-party reproduction. In traditional surrogacy the surrogate’s own egg is used, making her the biological mother. Paying It Forward works exclusively with gestational surrogacy for both ethical and legal reasons.

Independent surrogacy is possible but carries significant legal, financial, and emotional risk. Without an agency, intended parents take on the full responsibility of surrogate screening, legal coordination, medical scheduling, financial management, and ongoing communication between all parties. An experienced agency manages every one of those details while protecting your interests throughout the process.

A boutique agency intentionally limits its caseload so every intended parent receives direct, personal attention throughout their journey. At Paying It Forward we never carry more than 20 active cases at a time. That means a dedicated case manager who genuinely knows your situation, faster response times, and an agency that never loses sight of what this journey means to you.

The Process

Most surrogacy journeys take between 18 months and 2 years from your initial consultation to the day you bring your baby home. The timeline depends on how quickly a compatible match is made, the number of IVF transfer attempts required, and the legal requirements in the states involved. Your case manager will give you a realistic timeline based on your specific situation from the start.

At Paying It Forward we work exclusively with independent third-party legal and medical providers chosen collaboratively by you and your surrogate. We do not have in-house attorneys or affiliated clinics, which means every recommendation you receive is free from any conflict of interest. Your providers answer to you and to the journey, not to the agency.

A gestational surrogacy agreement is established before the medical process begins, outlining the rights and responsibilities of all parties. A pre-birth order, established before delivery, legally establishes you as the child’s legal parents. Surrogacy law varies by state and your independent reproductive attorney will guide you through every legal requirement specific to your situation.

Sometimes a match is not the right fit and that is okay. At Paying It Forward we work with you to understand what happened, support you through the transition, and find a new match. We will always be transparent with you about next steps, and will rematch you as soon as possible – often for no additional fees.

Not every transfer results in a successful pregnancy and we understand how difficult that is. Your medical team will review next steps with you and your case manager will be present throughout that process. We coordinate whatever comes next and we do not leave you to navigate it alone. We charge a reduced rematching fee of $11,250.

At Paying It Forward intended parents pay an initial deposit and do not pay our agency fees until they are matched. This pay-after-match model is a meaningful financial protection that most agencies do not offer. You are not paying for a promise. You are paying for a result.

We always advise Intended Parents to budget between $180,000 and $250,000 all in for a surrogacy journey. This range covers the full scope of what’s involved: agency fees, surrogate compensation, medical expenses, psychological evaluations, legal fees, insurance, and the many smaller costs that surface along the way, like travel, escrow management, and contingency funds for the unexpected. Every journey is different, and where you land in that range depends on factors like your surrogate’s location, your fertility clinic, whether donor eggs or sperm are needed, and the specifics of your surrogate’s insurance coverage. We find that Intended Parents feel most prepared, and experience less stress, when they go in with a realistic picture of the full financial commitment rather than being surprised by costs later.

Yes. Several financing options exist for intended parents including personal loans, fertility-specific financing programs, and grants through family building organizations. We can point you toward resources that may be right for your situation during your consultation.

Surrogate compensation is held in an independent third-party escrow account throughout the journey. This protects both you and your surrogate and ensures payments are made on schedule according to the terms of your surrogacy agreement, with no financial pressure placed on the personal relationship between you and your surrogate.
