One of the things I’ve learned through my own surrogacy journeys is that trust is everything.
Every relationship in surrogacy is built on trust. Intended parents are trusting someone to carry their child. Surrogates are trusting another family with the hopes they have for the baby they’re carrying. Both are placing an incredible amount of faith in one another, and that kind of relationship only works when it’s built on honesty and transparency from the very beginning.
Why Trust Is the Foundation of Every Surrogacy Journey
For intended parents, transparency means knowing their surrogate feels comfortable asking questions, sharing concerns, attending appointments, and keeping them involved throughout the pregnancy.
For surrogates, transparency means knowing the intended parents are financially prepared, emotionally invested, and committed to creating the relationship they’ve discussed together. It also means understanding expectations early—whether that’s communication during pregnancy, plans for delivery, or staying in touch after the journey is complete.
When my husband and I were intended parents, one of the reasons we felt so comfortable with our surrogates was because they were open with us from day one. They never made us wonder where things stood or hesitate to ask questions. That honesty gave us confidence that our babies were in loving, capable hands, and it allowed us to focus on enjoying the journey instead of worrying about the unknown.

When I founded Paying It Forward Surrogacy, I knew I wanted transparency to be one of our core values—not just something we talked about, but something families and surrogates experienced throughout every stage of the process.

We take time to truly get to know every intended parent and surrogate through detailed interviews, medical record reviews, background checks, and drug and tobacco screening. Our goal isn’t simply to find people who qualify for surrogacy. It’s to make thoughtful, informed matches where everyone feels comfortable moving forward together.
Honest Conversations Create Stronger Matches
Our match meetings are another example of why transparency matters.
Nothing is off limits.
We encourage intended parents and surrogates to openly discuss communication preferences, expectations during pregnancy, birth plans, breast milk, contact after delivery, and any other questions that might affect their journey together. These conversations can sometimes feel vulnerable, but they’re incredibly important. Addressing them before matching helps create stronger relationships and prevents misunderstandings later.
Transparency Doesn’t End After Matching
Transparency also continues behind the scenes.
We believe financial security is important for everyone involved, which is why all surrogate compensation is managed through an independent third-party escrow company. Every intended parent and surrogate also chooses their own independent legal representation. We don’t use in-house attorneys because we believe every party deserves unbiased guidance throughout the legal process.
Why Transparency Is One of Our Core Values
To me, transparency isn’t just about sharing information.
It’s about creating an environment where everyone feels heard, respected, and confident enough to ask difficult questions. It’s about making sure no one feels surprised by the process or uncertain about what’s coming next.
Surrogacy will always involve a leap of faith.
